ORAU is committed to K-12 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in a number of ways, including Extreme Classroom Makeover, programs for K-12 student and professional development for K-12 educators.

ORAU directly supports schools by offering education grants to educators in Anderson, Campbell, Morgan, Roane and Scott Counties. Educators in these counties are invited to submit proposals to fund STEM programs.

Funds are available for projects to be carried out during the 2023-24 school year. ORAU has $30,000 available to support this year’s Education Grants program. To apply for this year’s grants, visit the application portal: https://orausurvey.orau.org/n/2023educationgrants.aspx. Deadline to apply is April 21, 2023.

Since 2002, ORAU has funded more than $521,000 in grants to area schools for projects that complement ORAU’s mission of enriching STEM education programs.

Previous grant recipients have purchased iPads, laptops, 3D printers, robotics kits, virtual reality goggles and other technology to complement classroom instruction.

ORAU awards $21,000 in grants to local teachers

Nine teachers from schools in Anderson, Campbell, Morgan and Scott Counties received a total of $21,000 in new teaching materials and supplies through the 2022 edition of the ORAU Education Grants program. Since the Education Grants program was launched in 2002, ORAU has awarded more than half a million dollars to Clinton City and Anderson County Schools in it its mission to support STEM programs. Education grants were not offered in 2021 because of the pandemic, and the program was re-launched and expanded to five counties earlier this year.
